CBSE Class 12 Results 2026: Lower Marks Controversy & Re-evaluation Portal Details (Opens May 19)
Following the declaration of the CBSE Class 12 Results 2026 on May 13, widespread concerns have emerged among students regarding unexpectedly low marks, especially in Science subjects. Many attribute this to the newly implemented On-Screen Marking (OSM) system. In response, CBSE is opening its verification and re-evaluation portal starting May 19, 2026.
The "Lower Marks" Controversy and OSM System
This year, many Class 12 students, particularly from the Science stream, reported scoring significantly lower than their expectations. The controversy centers around the On-Screen Marking (OSM) system, a digital evaluation process adopted by CBSE to streamline paper checking and reduce logistical errors.
While the board maintains that the OSM system is accurate and error-free, students have taken to social media expressing their dissatisfaction. To address these grievances transparently, CBSE provides a structured mechanism for students to challenge their scores.
The 3-Step Re-evaluation Process
If you believe your marks do not reflect your performance, you must follow this strictly sequential three-step process. You cannot skip any step.
The first step involves a recount of the marks awarded. It checks if all answers have been evaluated and if there is any mistake in totaling the marks.
Note: You must apply for Verification to proceed to Step 2.
If you are still unsatisfied after the Verification of Marks, you can request a scanned photocopy of your evaluated answer script. This allows you to see exactly how you were marked.
Note: Only those who applied for Verification can request a photocopy.
After reviewing the photocopy, if you find that a specific answer was marked incorrectly according to the marking scheme, you can apply for the re-evaluation of specific questions.
Note: Only those who applied for a photocopy can apply for Re-evaluation.
