Choice Filling Strategy — Pro Tips

Your choice filling order directly determines which seat you get. Here's how to do it smartly:

💡
Tip 1 — Dream Choices First: Always put your dream college + branch combination at the top. There's no penalty for aiming high. If your rank qualifies, you'll get it; if not, the system moves to your next choice.
📊
Tip 2 — Check Previous Year Cutoffs: Refer to the 2025 Opening-Closing Ranks (OR-CR) data on the JAC Delhi portal. This gives a realistic idea of where you stand — though cutoffs vary each year.
🎯
Tip 3 — Fill Maximum Choices: Don't limit yourself to just 5-10 choices. Fill as many as possible (all branches in all institutes you're willing to join). More choices = higher chance of getting a seat.
⚠️
Tip 4 — Lock Your Choices! Manually lock your choices after finalising. If you don't lock, choices will be auto-locked at the deadline — but any last-minute edits you planned may not be saved.

After Seat Allotment — What to Do

Once the Round 1 seat allotment result is declared on June 15, 2026, you will have three options:

OptionWhat It MeansAction Required
Accept & FreezeYou're satisfied with the allotted seat and don't want to participate in further roundsPay Seat Acceptance Fee (₹95,000) + Physical Reporting with original documents
Accept & Float (Upgrade)You accept the current seat but want to try for a better choice in the next roundPay Seat Acceptance Fee (₹95,000) + Physical Reporting. You keep the current seat as backup while competing for a higher preference.
Withdraw / Not InterestedYou don't want the allotted seat at allNo action needed. Your seat will be released for the next round. You exit the process.
🚨
Critical: If you are allotted a seat and don't pay the Seat Acceptance Fee or report physically within the given window (June 17–25 for Round 1), your seat will be automatically cancelled. No exceptions.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is JAC Delhi?

JAC Delhi (Joint Admission Counselling Delhi) is the centralised counselling body that handles B.Tech and B.Arch admissions at Delhi's premier engineering institutions — DTU, NSUT, IIIT-Delhi, IGDTUW, and DSEU — based on JEE Main ranks.

What is the last date to register?

The last date for registration and choice filling is June 9, 2026, 11:30 PM. Late applications will not be accepted under any circumstances.

Can I change my choices after locking?

No. Once you lock your choices, they cannot be changed. However, if you don't manually lock them, they will be auto-locked at the deadline. You can edit and rearrange your choices as many times as you want before locking.

I am from Noida/Gurgaon — am I a Delhi candidate?

No. The Delhi quota (85% seats) is only for candidates who completed Class 12 from a school within the National Capital Territory (NCT) of Delhi. Candidates from Noida (UP), Gurgaon/Faridabad (Haryana), etc. fall under the Outside Delhi (15%) category.

What happens if I don't pay the Seat Acceptance Fee?

If you are allotted a seat and fail to pay the ₹95,000 Seat Acceptance Fee or don't physically report within the given window, your seat will be automatically cancelled and offered to the next candidate in subsequent rounds.

Can I participate in both JAC Delhi and JoSAA counselling?

Yes. JAC Delhi and JoSAA are separate counselling processes. You can register for both simultaneously. However, if you accept a seat in one, ensure you follow the withdrawal procedure for the other to avoid any seat blocking issues.

What is the eligibility for IIIT-Delhi?

IIIT-Delhi requires a minimum of 70% aggregate in best 5 subjects (including PCM) and 70% in Mathematics alone in Class 12. They also consider bonus points for Olympiads, sports, and other achievements.

How many counselling rounds are there?

There are typically 4 regular rounds of seat allotment, followed by a branch upgradation round and an online spot admission round (subject to seat availability). Exact schedules for later rounds will be announced on the official website.

Where can I check the previous year cutoffs?

Visit the official JAC Delhi portal at jacdelhi.admissions.nic.in and look for the "OR-CR" (Opening Rank – Closing Rank) section to view round-wise cutoffs from 2025. These give a good reference point.
