ICAR–Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi, marked World Food Day on 16 October 2026 with a programme highlighting sustainable agri-food systems, agricultural innovation, crop diversification and water conservation.
Key themes from the programme
According to the official IARI report, the discussions covered value addition, reducing food waste, soil health and water-use efficiency. Technical sessions included horticulture, plant protection, integrated farming, seed production and improved varieties. Participants also visited research and demonstration facilities, including protected cultivation and integrated farming systems.
The event connected research, education and extension with food and nutritional security. It was an awareness and learning programme; the report does not by itself quantify the performance or savings of a particular farm intervention.
How to read a food-systems update
For students, a broad theme becomes easier to understand when it is linked to a specific question. Consider these prompts for a class discussion or supervised project:
| Theme | Question to investigate |
|---|---|
| Water | What is being measured, over what period, and compared with which alternative? |
| Diversification | How does a proposed crop change fit local conditions and the farm calendar? |
| Value addition | Which practical problem is being solved, and who would use the resulting product? |
| Food waste | Where does loss occur in the process being studied, and what evidence supports that diagnosis? |
What readers should do next
Read the original event account for its scope. If you want a training place or farm-specific recommendation, look for a current institutional notice or speak with the relevant extension team. A report about an event that has already happened should not be treated as a registration link.
Keep a short learning note: one theme, one question, a source to read and the information you would need to investigate further. Our Natural Farming curriculum explainer offers another example of reading an agriculture update carefully.
