What Happened: MU Gives Distance Learners Three More Weeks

The University of Mumbai has pushed the CDOE admission deadline for the 2026-27 academic year from July 31 to August 20, 2026.

CDOE — formerly known as IDOL, the Institute of Distance and Open Learning — is Mumbai University's arm for distance and online degrees. It is the route most working professionals, career-changers and students outside Mumbai take to a University of Mumbai qualification.

CDOE Director Prof. Shivaji Sargar has appealed to students to complete their applications within the extended window.

Separately, the University announced an additional online entrance test for its two entrance-based programmes, MMS and MCA, to be held on Sunday, August 16, 2026. Candidates who want to sit that test must register by August 10, 2026.

🚨
Two different admission tracks — a common point of confusion. The University of Mumbai runs regular UG, PG and four-year degree admissions through its affiliated colleges on separate portals, and that window closed on July 30, 2026 after its own extension. Today's news concerns CDOE only. If you missed the July 30 college deadline, CDOE is now your realistic route into MU for 2026-27.

CDOE Regional Centres — Including a New One at Palghar

CDOE operates through regional centres across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region and the Konkan belt. Students attend counselling sessions, submit assignments and sit examinations at their chosen centre.

  • Churchgate — the main centre at the Fort campus
  • Thane
  • Kalyan
  • Ratnagiri
  • Sawantwadi
  • Palghar — newly opened for this cycle

The addition of Palghar matters for students in the northern reaches of the MMR, who previously had to travel to Thane or Churchgate.

How to Apply for MU CDOE Admission 2026

Go to mucdoeadm.samarth.edu.in and complete the pre-registration using a valid mobile number and email address.
Log in and fill the admission form — personal details, qualifying examination details and your chosen regional centre.
Complete subject or specialisation selection for your programme.
Upload scanned documents — marksheets, leaving certificate, photograph, signature, category certificate and, where required, the eligibility or transfer certificate forms available on the CDOE notifications page.
Applying for MMS or MCA? Register for the entrance test by August 10, 2026 and appear online on August 16.
Pay the fee online and download the confirmation. Complete everything before August 20, 2026.
⚠️
Programme fees vary by course and category and are displayed on the portal at the time of payment. Do not rely on fee figures published on third-party college-listing websites — several still carry amounts from the old IDOL portal, which has been superseded by the Samarth system.

Documents, Recognition and Scholarships

Documents commonly required: Class 10 and Class 12 marksheets and passing certificates, degree marksheets for PG applicants, school or college leaving certificate, migration or eligibility certificate for candidates from other boards and universities, category and non-creamy-layer certificates where applicable, government photo ID, photograph and signature scans, and the ABC ID and DEB ID required for distance and online enrolment.

Recognition: CDOE programmes are recognised by the UGC Distance Education Bureau, and the technical programmes carry AICTE approval. A CDOE degree from the University of Mumbai is a University of Mumbai degree.

Scholarship: The official CDOE notification confirms that reserved-category applicants are eligible for the Government of India Post-Matric Scholarship. Apply through the National Scholarship Portal after securing admission.

What Students Should Do Next

  • MMS or MCA aspirants: register for the entrance test before August 10 — this is the tighter of the two deadlines.
  • Everyone else: complete the CDOE application and fee payment well before August 20.
  • Generate your ABC ID and DEB ID now if you do not already have them; they are mandatory for distance and online enrolment.
  • Choose your regional centre based on where you can realistically attend sessions and exams — Palghar is now an option.
  • Reserved-category students should keep their caste and non-creamy-layer certificates current for the scholarship application.
  • Verify the final deadline on mucdoeadm.samarth.edu.in before your last day of application — university circulars can be revised.
