What is NMMSS?

The National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme (NMMSS) is a central government initiative by the Ministry of Education. It provides financial assistance to meritorious students from economically weaker families to prevent school dropouts and encourage continuation of education from Class 8 to Class 12.

The scholarship is paid through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) directly into the student's bank account — ₹12,000 per year.
